AstraZeneca, CSPC Establish New Biologics Manufacturing JV in China

The JV will initially focus on producing undisclosed biologics drug substances for global markets.

CSPC Pharmaceutical and AstraZeneca have entered a 51%-49% joint venture contract for the construction of a next-generation biologics manufacturing facility in Shijiazhuang, China, expanding on their strategic collaboration.

The joint venture aims to combine the group’s AI-driven GMP system and pharmaceutical manufacturing construction and operational capabilities with AstraZeneca’s expertise in global quality standards and supply chain management.

The business will initially focus on producing undisclosed biologics drug substances for global markets. The investment amount was not  disclosed. 

According to CSPC Board, “the establishment of the Joint Venture marks the further extension of the Group’s internationalization path from going global with products and technologies to going global with manufacturing systems and supply chain capabilities.”

CSPC Pharmaceutical recently received a $10 million milestone payment from AstraZeneca under a strategic collaboration for the discovery and development of novel oral small molecule candidates with potential to treat diseases across indications including immunological diseases.
